Chapter 5

The next day, Shadow woke up before Amy and he decided he wanted to do something nice for her. He walked out the house and was about to go look for something when a newspaper ad hit him in the face. He knew exactly what he was going to do for her. He went back in the house and this time, he woke her up.

“Hey, you got any plans today?” he asked.

“No, why?”

“I was just wondering.”

She got up and out of bed and found him in the living room.

“You want to go out to eat?” she asked.

“Sure, why not.”

“And this time, you are going to order an actual meal.”

“Fine, have it your way.”

They went and had breakfast at the diner and then Amy wanted to go for a walk again. Amy took Shadow around on a walk around the town until it was just a few hours until dark.

“Amy,” Shadow interrupted, “I want to show you something… close your eyes.”

“Will it hurt?” she asked.

“Just trust me, you’ll love it.”

She closed her eyes and he did chaos control.

“Okay, open them.”

She opened her eyes to an over lit theme park. She gasped and hugged him until he couldn’t breathe.
“Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!” She shrieked. “What do we do first?”

“First,” he struggled to breathe, “first you can let go of me.”

“Oh! Sorry.”

“It’s okay. I knew you would love it.”

They rode every ride they could find and then, at Amy's request, they went through the game section. Amy’s eyes widened when she looked at the prize at the Test Your Strength game. Shadow noticed and decided to win her what she was looking at.

“Uh, Amy…”

“What?”

“I think you got something on your face.”

“Where?”

“Right there.” He pointed to her forehead.

She rubbed it, “Is it gone?”

“No…but it’s nasty, yuck! And big, you might want to go and wipe that off in front of a mirror.”

She ran to the bathroom and he ran for the game. “Hey! How much for a hit?”

“$5. But this game is for the big guys. I think you might be looking for the Merry-Go-Round.” The game owner said.

There was a big ohhh! that went through a little crowd of people. He growled and snatched the mallet from the owner and angrily slammed it down. He hit the bell clean off the top. “Now what were you saying sir?” He smirked.

“Take any prize you want.” The owner kind of squeaked.

The little crowd laughed. Shadow picked out the prize that Amy had been staring at. It was a giant, pink stuffed bear in a tutu. “Shadow hid the toy and Amy came back.

“I didn’t see anything on my face.” She said.

“Well, it must have been a bug or something.”

He and Amy walked through the games and decided to play a few. Amy even tried to win the pink bear herself. Then they decided it was time to go. But Amy was still hungry so Shadow went to get her some fries from the concession stand. Amy had been standing aside waiting for Shadow to come back when she was spotted by Sonic and Tails.

“Oh…Uh, hi Amy!” Sonic said when he saw her looking at him. “Get ready to run” he whispered to Tails.

Amy waved and realized that she no longer had the urge to chase him. They came a little closer and Sonic realized that she was giving no effort to chase him.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

“Yeah, I’m fine thanks for asking. Why?”

“I don’t know…you’re acting different.”

Just then, Shadow was coming back and saw them but they didn’t see him.

“What are you doing here all alone Amy?” Tails asked.

“I’m not alone, and I was just playing around.”

Shadow smiled when he noticed that she wasn’t ditching him for Sonic.

“Well who are you here with?”

That’s my cue, shadow thought. “Ready to go Amy?” he asked.

They noticed Sonic's smile disappear when he saw Shadow.

“Look who I dragged out of the pond.” Amy said. She turned to Shadow, “Yeah, I’m ready.”

When they had gotten out of view of Sonic and Tails, they started to laugh. Sonic and Tails just stood there dumbfounded with their mouths hanging open.

“Did you SEE the look on their faces?!? PRICELESS!” Shadow laughed.

“I know! That was HILARIOUS!”

He had never had so much fun in his life. Just then, Shadow thought of something that would top the night off. And it was already dark.

“Amy, I have one more thing to show you.”

“What?” she asked eagerly.

“Close your eyes again.”

She closed her eyes again and he did chaos control. “Open.”

She saw they were in a giant clearing in the forest. “Why are we here?” she wondered what was going on.

“Look up,” he said.

“She looked up to a giant space with nothing but stars.

“I don’t see any—

All of a sudden, she saw the sky light up with fireworks. She hugged him again, but this time, not so tightly.

“It’s beautiful.”

This is so sweet, she thought, Sonic never did anything like this for me. Maybe I WAS wasting my time with him. Sally can TAKE him!

“And that’s not all…” he pulled out the giant stuffed bear. She let go of him to grab the bear and then she hugged him tighter. Then, they sat and watched the fireworks. She leaned on his shoulder but this time, it didn’t feel so awkward to him. Amy began to think. This is the most fun I’ve ever had in my life…now I’m SURE that I was wasting my time with Sonic. They saw a couple of shooting stars streak across the sky too. Then, he heard Amy crying and he felt her tears on his arm.

“What’s the matter?” that was one of the things he hated. A girl crying.

“It’s just that…I’ve haven’t been this happy in so long…Thank you.”

“No problem. It only cost a $20 for the whole thing.”

“No, not just for the carnival…for everything.” She hugged him again, and this time, he hugged her back, and it felt…good. “Don’t cry…just enjoy the view.” He leaned against a tree and Amy wiped her eyes and kept lying on his shoulder. A few minutes later, he found that she had fallen asleep on him. He didn’t understand it. He was feeling things that he had never felt before. He actually felt SORRY FOR SONIC because Sonic had kept turning Amy down. He used chaos control to take them back to Amy’s house. He carried her to her room and gently put her on her bed. Then, he went to his room. He finally realized that one of the feelings he had had at the park was…happiness. Since he had been spending time with Amy, he had actually felt...happy. He still hadn’t figured the other one out though.
